A project led by West-Can Folk Performing Co. aimed at rejuvenating the Carnival Spirit through Masquerade, Movement & Music. Share in the rich traditions of Caribbean carnival through lectures and workshops focused on the history of carnival in various Caribbean countries, Caribbean carnival costume making, calypso, soca, steelpan and carnival dance. Carnival Is… Mas, Movement & music is designed to edu-tain, inspire and empower youth, adults and elders of the community.
Whether you are an experienced carnival enthusiast or new to the world of carnival arts, we welcome you to join us and discover the joy and energy of this vibrant cultural celebration. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the creative process of costume making, teach you the rhythms and techniques of steel pan playing, inspire the composition and performance of calypso and soca songs and lead you in the dynamic movements of traditional carnival characters as well contemporary carnival dance.
