New Horizons 2020

Golden connections seniors program

This project will focus on using technology to keep the members of our community who are 55 years old and over connected, active and contributing participants in Caribbean culture.

Thanks to a contribution from Service Canada under the New Horizons for Seniors Program, we are able to offer online Caribbean folk dance, stretching and drum classes to seniors in the Black English Speaking community. These classes will promote well being, increase levels of physical activity, improve memory, improve coordination and help to reduce the feeling of isolation and loneliness some seniors in our community are experiencing during these times. Seniors will be able to maintain connection to their community in this new covid-19 reality.

Caribbean Cooking Class

Caribbean Cooking Class

West-Can Folk Performing Company presents Jar Delights Kitchen, a series of 4 Family-Friendly Caribbean Cooking Classes partly funded by the Government of Canada through the Red Cross Granting Program.

Participants will receive the dry ingredients and instructions for the following recipes: Sorrel, Coconut Sweet Bread, Cocoa Spice Cookies and Pholourie. There will then be 4 virtual workshops held on ZOOM where all families will be able to cook together with an instructor walking them through every step of the process.

Join us every Saturday in November for an afternoon of Caribbean cooking and socializing to combat the social isolation due to Covid-19.
